Walks Information

We have WALKING GROUPS groups to suit all levels of fitness and ability - so whether you Ramble, Amble, Stride, Stroll, Wobble, Hobble or use a Pole - there is a group for you.

EQUIPMENT
Wear sturdy footwear and suitable clothing for prevailing weather conditions. For longer walks bring a backpack with food and water, a waterproof jacket/over-trousers, hat, map etc. Include a small first aid kit, any personal medication, and mobile phone (with ICE).

WHAT TO EXPECT
Unless otherwise notified, the Walk leader will have recce'd the walk to check condition of paths, obstacles or hazards that might be encountered, including steep ascents or descents.

At the start of each walk the Walk leader will explain the route and terrain and ask for a 'back-marker' to ensure no-one is left behind, or needs assistance. However, each member of the group is responsible for their own health and safety, and for assessing their capacity and fitness level for the grade of the walk.

GETING INVOLVED
It is hoped that all members of the group will volunteer to lead a walk, in the spirit and ethos of the U3A, with more experienced members offering advice on route planning or acting as a 'walking buddy' to those less confident with their map-reading skills or in leading a walk.

DOG POLICY
Well-behaved, sociable dogs are usually welcome on walks. They should be kept on a short lead in fields with livestock and around farm buildings. If a particular walk is not suitable for dogs this will be indicated in the walk details.
