First Aid

Incidents
Basic First Aid skill is all that is required. That covers the ability to identify the seriousness of an injury or event. If it is deemed serious the Group Leader should call 999 /111 and ask for assistance. For this reason as part of all Risk Assessments it is imperative that the Group Leader checks that their mobile phone is fully charged as there might not always be a telephone available.

  • Please familiarise yourself with basic First Aid practices, recommended by the St John Ambulance or British Red Cross so if emergency first aid is required you are prepared. If you have a smart phone it may be useful to download a free first aid app from the Red Cross.
  • We have Public Liability Insurance provided by the National U3A Organisation.
  • In the event of an incident please note that an Incident Report Form is to be filled in by a member of the committee, a Group Leader, or the property owner and should be retained on file by the U3A committee in case of a claim and for a period of three years.

Failure to report means that trends will not be identified and the cause cannot be found. This could result in repeat incidents with the same or worse consequences.
