Welcome to the STANFORD-LE-HOPE and DISTRICT U3A website.
An Introductory Meeting was arranged on 12th February 2014 at the "Welcome Club" in Stanford-le-Hope. At this well attended meeting, volunteers were requested to form a steering group and organise an inaugural meeting.
The Inaugural Meeting was held on the 8th May 2014 at the "The Springhouse", Corringham and over 200 people attended with around 75% joining up on the day.
The Stanford le Hope and District U3A is a registered charity run by its members for its members, by pooling and sharing members’ skills, abilities and time. The STANFORD-LE-HOPE and DISTRICT U3A is an excellent resource for retired people in the local area and as a member you can have a major influence on what is provided and how this U3A is run.

In November 2015 we achieved Charity status. Registered Charity Number 1164247.
We currently have a modest number of Interest Groups running, but this is continuing to expand to cover a wide and varied range of interests. All our groups meet in members’ homes or local halls as appropriate.

|Please can members help us by not arriving at the Hall until 1.30pm which is the time from which we have the Hall officially booked. Committee Members and Speakers need time to set up the room to be able to deal with things such as the projector, attendance, membership and distribution of Newsletters.|
|Please note we will NOT be selling tickets for events, trips etc to members before 1:30pm and if allowed into the hall before that time we request you DO NOT queue at the positions selling tickets. This will give every member a fair chance of participating in our activities.|
Members receive general information relating to U3A issues, followed by a guest speaker who provides an interesting talk on a variety of topics. A "Newsletter" available most months provides details of current and future activities. The Newsletter can also advertise local Professional and commercial services. In accordance with fire regulations, a count of all members attending the monthly meetings so members are asked to show their current membership card to have their attendance recorded on arrival. New members, visitors and any member that have misplaced their membership card are asked to sign the visitors book.
Membership costs -From the 1st April 2018 our annual subscription will be £15. New members joining in February and March before the April 1st renewal, will pay the £15 and will qualify for 13 or 14 months membership for their first year.
Getting to General Meetings:
Would members who regularly have problems getting to General Meetings or know of other members who cannot get to General Meetings, please make themselves known to an Executive Committee Member and state what area they live in - this is especially if it is an area which is not on a bus route.
