Stanford-Le-Hope & District

Interest Groups

New interest/activity Groups may also be formed at any time by our members so if the group you are looking for is not listed, please contact the Interest Groups Co-ordinator with regard to recommending the formation of a new group. More information and suggestions can be found by clicking here Starting a new Interest Group and Suggestions for future Interest Groups or the links on the Right Hand side.

----

Group meetings may be held in members' houses or, where numbers are large, local halls may be used. Some groups may make a small charge for materials, refreshments or room hire and this will be made clear to you before you join the group. Where meetings are held at a member's house we would recommend a small donation for refreshments. Please see FOR GROUP LEADERS for more specific information.
For anyone considering organising a trip on behalf our of other members please see FOR DAY TRIP ORGANISERS for advice on procedure and cost.

Sometimes members travel to locations and 'car share' to save on petrol and overall cost. The recommended rates for this are 45p a mile plus 5p per person in the car and then the total is divided by the number of people in the car.

Clicking a group name will take you to a page with contact details of the group's leader. On the right hand side you will see a list of reports and pictures of the groups activities. Clicking a link will open a new page to show the details. Details reports are also printed in our monthly newsletter. Click NEWS for details.

On all Stanford-le-Hope and District U3A trips, members of our U3A get priority. If the trip has to be opened up to others because there are spare places, members of other U3As who have asked to go will be offered a place before non-members. Non-members (including spouses and partners) can only go on our trips/outings on two occasions in total. Exceptions will be made for official carers.

MOOC's

MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) give people the chance to learn new things with short courses presented by experts. They now cover a huge range of subjects.

Studying in a MOOC gives everyone, including people who have difficulty in getting out, the opportunity to keep their brains active. But within the U3A the aim should always be "Uniting Third Agers" so the main attraction of MOOCs is as a means of promoting discussions in a live.
If you are interested discuss it at your next group meeting and who knows, you may find others that are interested.

Listed below in the two tables are the Groups that we currently run with their days and times (limited to a.m. or p.m.). There are further detailed sub-pages for all these groups that you can explore to help you decide what interests you.

If you would like to join any of the groups or like more information, please go to the 'GROUP LIST' below and select the relevant interest/activity. You will find the Group Leaders contact details in the text. They can be emailed by clicking the link or by telephone. Some of these meet monthly, others weekly. Click the links to read more.

Alternatively you can email, by clicking here the Interest Groups Co-ordinator or from the CONTACTS page. One of the Groups Co-ordinator Team will alert the Group Leader to contact you direct.

(For your convenience the second table identifies in a tabular form by day and time when each group takes place to help you identify if there are any conflicts should you be interested in more than one group.)

New Groups are indicated by a yellow background

Groups with space for more members to join have a white background

Groups without space for new members are indicated by a grey background

Some group require members to book in order to take part. For updates contact the Interest Groups’ Co-ordinators. Apart from a very few exceptions you must be a current member of our U3A to take part in our Interest Groups.
