Sedgefield & District

Luncheon Club

  • 1. This is a self organising group. Although there is a co-ordinator, all participants must be willing to take a turn at arranging an event. The co-ordinator keeps the members’ contact list and ensures that all members have access to this.
  • 2. Lunches are arranged during a fixed and known week in a month, and at a regular time e.g. 12 for 12.30pm. As U3A branch meeting takes place on the first Friday, lunch group could meet in the week of the third Friday. Due to the number of Christmas and New Year events, it may be advisable to exclude December and January.
  • 3. The day is rotated each month, within the set week. This ensures that no one who has a regular commitment on a particular day, is excluded more than two or three times in a year.
  • 4. The member who is arranging that month’s lunch:
  • Has free choice in the venue and this may be anywhere within a radius of, say, 30 miles from Sedgefield;
  • Informs members of date and place, may need to circulate a set menu and coordinate responses;
  • Makes the booking;
  • Organises transport
  • Arrives first to check room / tables;
  • Collects payments and makes sure bill is paid and appropriate tips are left.
  • 5. The rotating organisation means that no one individual is unduly burdened. Depending upon numbers, being the organiser may only happen once every year or more.
