Like to know more? - a potted history
Several exploratory meetings were held in 1997/8 to test support for a U3A in the Newcastle area and, encouraged by the enthusiasm, Newcastle U3A was founded in 1998.
It became the 13th member of Northumbria Region (geographically the North East Region), which itself is associated with National U3A, the Third Age Trust. The Region brings together all the 40+ U3As in the area bounded by Thirsk, Berwick, Teesdale, Weardale and Tynedale.
