U3A Skittles Group Leader Martyn Cox
The U3A Skittles Group is an open group and all U3A members can join in. Two Skittles Social Evenings are usually held each year in March or April and October or November. Members sign up for the event usually at the two U3A monthly meetings beforehand. Spaces are limited due to the venue capacity, so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

The latest Skittles night was held on Friday 5 April 2024 and as last time, was at the Liskeard Bowling Clubhouse, which is generally regarded as a very good venue for this event.
This time saw the number of players increase from 20 to 24, which made for a more competitive contest, but took longer and the bowling had to be limited from the normal eight frames to seven to prevent the evening extending too late.
To try to ensure a fair contest, players were randomly allocated to four teams (Green, Red, Yellow and Blue) each of six players and with a selected team leader who had performed well in the previous event. This seemed to work well and the final honours were quite evenly distributed. There was also a music question for each team with bonus points on offer.
At the end of an exciting evening of bowling, the Blue Team emerged clear winners with an excellent combined score of 275 pins. Meanwhile, the individual trophies went to the Blue Team's Lindsay Pendray, the overall winner with an excellent 55 pins and the men's trophy to the Red Team's Martyn Cox, with 52 pins. Both are first time winners.
