Church Visits
Church Visits | Tony Williams |
Meets alternate Sundays, 2.30 pm | starting in May 2024 |
The Island is full of amazing churches – ten of them listed in the Domesday Book and others dating back to the 11th century. During the summer we will be visiting a different church every other Sunday at 2.30pm, starting on May 5th .
One of the group will have done some research about the church in advance (and will have established that it is open!).
We will explore the church, learn about its history, walk around the graveyard and then stroll somewhere nearby for some refreshments. Some churches offer afternoon tea for visitors in the summer.
We will start on May 5th by visiting St Mary the Virgin in Brading.
There is a car park (which charges) and the No 2 bus goes from Newport to Brading church.
Other churches being considered are St Mildred’s, Whippingham; St Olave, Gatcombe; the Holy Cross, Binstead; St Michael the Archangel, Shalfleet.
If you are interested please contact Hilary Ranger (07876 560 439). If we have missed your favourite church come along, tell us and lead an afternoon’s visit!
