Theatre
The group is divided into two parts - an Inner Circle who attend the monthly group meetings and an Outer Circle who do not attend meetings but are kept in touch with our plans and are welcome to join in any of our outings. This arrangement is partly because some members who would like to go to the plays, etc., do not want to attend the meetings and partly because we need to limit the number attending so as to be able to fit into the hosts’ living rooms.
The Inner Circle meet in members’ houses at 2pm on the third Wednesday of each month and the members obtain details of plays, films and concerts at a number of venues within reasonable travelling distance for discussion at the meetings. We usually travel to the theatres, concert halls and cinemas either by car or train and try to cover local venues as well as those at Southampton, Guildford and Salisbury. Some are relayed from live performances at the National and other theatres and are shown in the New Park Centre at Chichester.
Our normal means of communication is by e-mail. Notes of each meeting are sent out to all the Theatre members, giving details of the next plays/films/concerts chosen to visit, details of who is organising transport and a deadline for contacting the person making the bookings. We try to accommodate any members who do not have an e-mail connection, but they will have to accept that sometimes they may not receive all the information circulated by e-mail.
At present we have 9 members in the Inner Circle (which is the maximum we allow) and 7 members in the Outer Circle. There is no limit for the Outer Circle which can accommodate everybody else who would like to join. When anyone drops out of the Inner Circle, then someone from the Outer Circle can move over if they wish.
