09 June 2023  | Ian: Sometime ago Third Age Matters, the u3a's national magazine, published an article expressing the joys and benefits of table tennis for u3a members. It is of course exercise for the body, but it keeps the mind alert, for it is excellent hand to eye coordination. Of course we knew all this instinctively in Coquetdale and the Table Tennis was not only established with the founding our u3a but immediately became very popular. Unlike most Groups it met every week in the Rothbury Sports Club. The Club already had both the room and two tables, but nobody had used them. A perfect match! So popular was the Group that the Group purchased a third table. Although we have players of all standards we play for fun and play doubles. There are no set partners and play game by game getting our satisfaction by the joy of playing and the camaraderie. So successful has this been that we now meet twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday. The Group maintains over 20 members with 8 members over 80! To see us dashing about would startle most youth clubs. |
19 December 2022  | Sue: At the New Members Meeting in November, I made the suggestion of having a monthly IT hub where members could seek help from each other. My thinking was that if someone had difficulty using their device because of lack of knowledge they could be helped by members with more advanced know how. My expertise lies in Apple products like iPhones, iPads, Macs and related software. If you have expertise in Windows products, we could form a team to help members in Coquetdale. Perhaps you have a computer or mobile device or smart phone and want to know more ways to make them work for you, or you have a problem that needs sorting out? This could be the ideal group for you. If you are interested then please contact me via Join Rutherford by clicking on the link under the Groups heading on the News page. |
23 October 2022  | David (site editor): Welcome to this the relaunched Post Box facility. This facility has in the past been very popular and can be used for discussion and information exchange amongst the wider membership. I quote from Ian's post of 2014 when he originally set it up: "This new page could be not only useful but fun. It is an experiment which could be exciting. We did set up a Facebook page in the past which was not a success mainly I believe because not everyone on it is a member and members were not too sure about security." |
