The final meeting of 2023 and the last one at Loder Hall, was all about “Tales from the Tudor Table – and the Sayings of Sulgrave”. We heard that the Tudors liked to eat – and if you were rich enough, you ate enormous amounts of meat and game, except on fish days, followed by desserts in your “Banqueting House”. I’m not sure anyone liked the thought of eating peacock or swan served inside its skin and feathers (which were used over and over again until they fell to bits).
