Further amendments to the 2014 Constitution were proposed by the Committee in 2018 and were presented to the membership at the 2018 AGM, both of which were approved and accepted.
Amendment 1 - Clause 3 - Charitable Purposes, sub-clause 3.i to be replaced with the following:
"The charitable purpose of The U3A
(i) the advancement of education and, in particular, the education of older people and those who are retired from full-time work by all means, including associated activities conducive to learning and personal development."
Amendment 2 - Clause 14 - Annual General Meeting, sub-clause 14.vi added, as follows:
"(vi) as from 1st January 2019, the date of Annual General Meeting to be changed to the first Wednesday in September. This will give the Treasurer and Auditor more time to complete the more detailed year-end accounts now required under the Charity Commission regulations."
An addendum to the 2014 Constitution was proposed by the Committee in 2016, relating to Clause 5 - Membership, sub-clause IV (a) - reducing the expiry date for members not renewing their annual membership to just one month. This was agreed and accepted by those members present at the Eighth Annual General Meeting on 1st June 2016. A signed copy of the addendum can be viewed by clicking on LINKS.
The Constitution was prepared during the spring of 2014 and was approved by U3A National Office and was accepted by the membership at the Sixth Annual General Meeting held in Brixworth Village Hall on Wednesday 4th June 2014.
