March 2023 - Local Authors and Celebrities who lived in Bungay, visited or had an association with it

Chris Reeve led our first walk of 2023. We learnt of Parson Woodford’s diaries (18thC) detailing the ‘goings on’ in Bungay at that time. We visited the castle which had been used as a setting for a romantic novel by Elizabeth Bonhote whose husband had bought the castle. From here we visited the site of the former riverside tannery, owned by John Scott, wealthy business man and diarist. Our next stop was Clays printers, responsible for printing the Harry Potter books before proceeding to the Fisher Theatre. Our final visit was 2 houses off Bridge Street with plaques commemorating Francois Rene, Vicomte de Chateaubriand and Elizabeth Howard.

Our refreshments stop was the Earsham street Cafe for a well earned cuppa. Thanks Chris for another interesting tour of Bungay.

April 2023 - Loddon

The Group enjoyed a walk around the pretty town of Loddon, guided by Ivan Crane. We stopped at the Guildhall and Town Hall before arriving at Church Plain. Now a car park it was the village centre where the water pump was sited. Continuing on around the village we visited Holy Trinity Church before proceeding down to the Staithe adjacent to the river Chet. We finished our morning with refreshments at the very welcoming Spoon Cake cafe. Many thanks to Ivan for leading our walk.
