2024-03 Magnificent Women

Members of Westbury & District u3a enjoyed a very interesting and fun talk by Sally Smith about her book: Magnificent Women and Flying Machines. The book is about the first 100 years of women in the sky, including Hilda Hewlett who was the first British woman to hold a full pilot’s license in 1911, solo pilot Edith Cook in 1910, Letitia Sage the first woman balloonist and aeronaut in 1785, and Winifred Brown. It is worth looking up these unsung heroines and their amazing achievements!
