About

National u3a

Founded in 1982, u3a is a UK-wide movement of locally-run interest groups that provide a wide range of opportunities to come together to learn for fun. Members explore new ideas, skills, and activities together.
Membership is open to anyone who is no longer in full-time work.

u3a members draw upon their knowledge and experience to teach and learn from each other but there are no qualifications to pass – it is just for pleasure. Learning is its own reward.

It's all voluntary; a typical u3a will be home to many activity groups covering hundreds of different subjects - from art to zoology and everything in between.

The u3a national body – the Third Age Trust - looks after all the u3as in the UK, providing educational and administrative support.

The Trust is overseen by a Board of Directors, to which any u3a member may be elected.

About Westbury & District u3a:

The Westbury & District branch of the u3a was formed in April 2011 as a result of a public meeting. A steering group of volunteers was set up to run the branch until it was firmly established and it proved very successful. After only a few months there were 15 interest groups. The first Annual General Meeting was held on 8 May 2012 when a committee was formally elected. This and subsequent AGMs provide an opportunity for new committee members to be elected to replace any outgoing members.

The aim of any group is to provide a friendly way to learn more about a subject and to enjoy the company of like-minded people. The emphasis is always on having a good time! If there is a subject you are interested in which does not appear on the list, do please think about starting a group. New groups are always very welcome! Groups usually meet during the daytime and may be educational, cultural, physical, or recreational. In addition, there are also branch social activities, for example talks and lunches.
