Report on Visit to Bushey Museum

The museum is a gem reflecting the history of the village which, though now very built up, still retains a village atmosphere. The earliest exhibit, an Edward 111 half noble (a gold coin) was found locally.

Edward reigned from 1327-1377. A long reign as he came to the throne at the age of 14.

Bushey is best known for the Herkomer School of Art which began in 1881. Sir Hubert Herkomer started the school locally, though by 1870 he was already doing successful water colours, several of which are exhibited in the museum, and also the work of some of his students.

There is also exhibited a very attractive vase by Fred Passenger from the little known Bushey Heath Pottery, no date but probably 200 years old.

Eight of us attended, we travelled by the 142 bus from Stanmore, a very easy and short journey, and ended the afternoon in a tea shop in Bushey High Road. It was a pleasant and worthwhile visit.
