Welcome

In times of change Learners inherit the earth;
while the Learned find themselves beautifully
equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists

STANMORE & DISTRICT (FORMERLY NORTH WEST LONDON) U3A
Registered Charity 1051027

We are one of the smallest and one of the most friendly and welcoming of all the local U3A's. Unlike most other U3A's, you only pay one annual subscription which allows you FREE access to all or regular activities and groups, although there is a small charge for refreshments in Glebe Hall and private homes.

We aim to provide an exhilarating experience. U3A stands for University of the Third Age. An international organisation with over 250,000 UK members spread over 780 groups.

We encourage lifelong learning through stimulating groups. Although called a University, we do not offer qualifications. 'University' is used in its original sense of ‘groups of people wishing to study or discuss a subject’. 3A refers to people in their 'Third Age'. It is not a University and it is not defined by age. It merely refers to that time when full time employment has ceased.

WHERE DO WE MEET?

Most of our meetings take place in the Glebe Hall, Glebe Road, HA7 4EL (off Stanmore Broadway). Buses 142, 324, 340, and H12 stop nearby (the 142, 324, and H12 provide direct access from Stanmore station). A link to the picture of our meeting hall is shown at the top right hand area of this screen.

However our monthly Monday talks have now moved to EHRS Community Centre, 118 Stonegrove, Edgware HA8 8AB. Bus 142 stops outside and bus 107 stops a short walk away.

Private venues

A number of meetings are held in members own homes in Edgware, Hendon, and Stanmore - see our programme for details.

Zoom

Following our experiences during the pandemic, some on-line courses have been introduced and some courses have moved on-line via Zoom - see our programme for details.

WHAT DO WE DO??

We meet regularly to discuss and follow topics ranging from Art to World Jewish History. Periodic outings and visiting lecturers provide a further opportunity to socialise and meet others.
