Solihull

Monday Morning Talk Report 2018

8th January
Bruce gave a well researched and enlightening talk on the John Profumo Affair
The harsh childhood of Christine Keeler, the Solihull connection of Mandy Rice Davis, the politics and the intrigue that led to Profumo's downfall, as well as the grossly unfair treatment of Stephen Ward which led to his suicide.
A very thought provoking morning!

15th January
Again on our 'America's theme'
A talk on the Battle of the Alamo - the truth, the myths and the downright lies (not John Wayne's version!). That took the first half of the morning, followed by the history of New York City. The talks were well received, which was a weight off our minds as I gave the first one and 'er indoors gave the second!

AWAY GETTIN COLD AND RUSTY IN THE CANARY ISLANDS! so no talk report
(don't you just hate it when the weather is appalling and the locals say, "It was lovely here last week, but we needed the rain!)

5th February
A very good talk and demonstration by the fast response volunteers who support the ambulance service, I will never be nervous about using a defibrillator in future.

12th February
John gave us a passionate (look you) talk on the Welsh in the Americas, following our America theme, then followed it with a little line dancing! Sorry, got confused .. NOT line dancing, but the story behind the MASON DIXON Line.

19th February
A CHANGE TO THE PROGRAM!
Alas poor Yorick, I didn't know him at all.
Our very own Play Reading Group took centre stage this morning. We had an introduction and readings (in character!) from a number of Shake
speare's plays, interspersed with music. A really informative and entertaining morning.

26th February
Outside speaker for a change! But I missed it as I was building snowmen in the Isle of Wight!

5th March
The AGM

12th March
Vera overcame our initial technical gremlins with the computer, to give us a smashing talk on the Perons and Argentina, still on our America's theme. How Eva came from poverty to become the most powerful woman in Argentina as well as the dark, vicious and deviant side of Juan Peron! Also the bizarre story of Eva's travelling corpse - a tourist in its own right!
