Solihull U3A Newsletter: Issue No 1
July 2020

Welcome to this, our 1st Newsletter. Your Committee hope to publish a regular Newsletter to help keep in touch with our membership during the current pandemic and to keep you updated about activities that are still taking place.
We hope to resume Monday morning meetings in January but, in the meantime, we intend to organise some zoom meetings. If you are not familiar with zoom we will provide a crib sheet to help you log on, or you may prefer to visit a friend who is familiar with zoom and join them for the zoom meeting.

Christmas Lunch

A U3A Christmas lunch date has provisionally been booked at Robin Hood Golf Club for December 7th. There will be more details later

What's Going On?

Some of our interest groups have managed to meet in one way or another during lockdown

TRIPS
Refund cheques have now been sent to those who booked the Chester Trip. We hope to run this trip in May 2021.

French Conversation
Les Amis hold weekly Zoom sessions where they continue to improve their French language skills

Book Lovers
Book Lovers have welcomed a new member during lockdown. They have enjoyed reading from their planned booklist and then holding a Zoom discussion.

WAGS

The wine lovers have pitted their wits against each other during two Zoom quizes and have recently held a socially distanced meeting in a member's garden where they sampled some Scottish wines

Art
Our artists have been able to satisfy their creative needs thanks to detailed emails from Brenda who has kept them supplied with stimulating ideas for artistic projects. We all look forward to seeing some of these works in our wonderful Christmas calendar

Wayfinders
The Wayfinders are due to resume activities with some informal walks

History
Our historians have not been meeting but they are working independently on a project researching underground railways

MAD
Music And Dance are looking at starting up again in some way in September

If you have any information about other activities please let us know so we can put it in the next newsletter

Garden Meetings

As we are not able to meet in the WI Hall until at least January, we propose to hold a number of "garden meetings" ( weather permitting)

If you are able to host a meeting of a maximum of 6 people in your garden for a cup of tea and a chat, or if you are unable to host a meeting in your garden but would like to attend one would you also please contact us through ‘Contact’ on the website.

If we get sufficient interest we will organise these garden meetings asap
