St John’s Players drama group based in Fulbourn are celebrating their 76th year of productions. They are presenting, in association with Samuel French, Mike Leigh’s ABIGAIL’S PARTY on 21-24 February 2024 at 7.30pm at The Fulbourn Centre, Home End, Fulbourn CB21 5BS.

Tickets priced £12 and £10 (concession - retired persons and students) are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/stjohnsplayers

The Story ....

Beverly and her husband Laurence host a drinks party for a few neighbours in their suburban house. The guests are Angela and her husband Tony, who have recently moved into their nearby house, and Sue, a divorcee whose daughter Abigail is having a rowdy party on the same road. The simmering tension, resentment, jealously and arrogance that play out over the evening build perfectly as the drinks are poured and not supplemented with enough crips and ‘cheesy pineapple ones’.

SAWSTON AGM

The venue for the Sawston u3a AGM on 4th October 2023 has been changed to The Catholic Hall in Sawston. The meeting will start at 2pm and there will be a talk by the Police on "Fraud and Phishing" followed by the yearly AGM. We do hope you will be able to attend.

SAWSTON 25 Year Celebrations 2023

The members of Sawston u3a have been able to enjoy two celebrations this year to commemorate our 25 Year Anniversary.

In June a Coronation Celebration with a performance by the Blue Sky Big Band followed by a Hog Roast was held at Sawston Village College. Approximately 140 members attended and it was a most enjoyable and successful day, with a bar and raffle raising £552.26 profit. This was divided equally between The Arthur Rank Hospice and the local John Huntingdon Charity.

In September, members were able to enjoy a day out to the Suffolk coast where we divided into three groups. The more energetic walked about four and a half miles from Walberswick to Dunwich, a second group walked two miles around the coast of Dunwich and a further party just enjoyed being by the sea. Everyone met up for a fish and chip lunch at the Flora Tea Rooms in Dunwich who, despite the vast numbers, produced the most delicious meal. The coaches then took everyone for a trip around Aldeburgh for more sea air, or shopping and afternoon tea on the High Street, before conveying the tired but happy groups back to Sawston.

PRESENTATION 2022

A reminder of a happy and momentous occasion last August; the presentation at Ickleton Village Hall of an inscribed garden bench, to Derek and Myfanwy, in recognition of all they have done for Sawston Area u3a over nearly a quarter of a century.
