Local U3A Research Projects

Dear Members of HSCN

You have probably seen the latest edition of Sources. As well as a feature on our own Portsdown U3A Project, there is also Patsy Thornton's article on the Citizens Project, for which I also attach a flyer. This is now very well supported financially and will go on until 2019.

We have some interest in it at Portsdown U3A, but it would also be great if we could develop a wider group here in our network area. I would be happy to act as coordinator for that. The History Centre at the Central Library in Portsmouth is ready to welcome and support researchers and we have discussed some possible topics, including local suffragettes.

In addition to Citizens, there is separate initiative in Portsmouth, originated by Sue Bruley, Reader in Modern History at the University, to work on Women's Activism in Portsmouth, 1960-1990. Once again, the History Centre is lending support. We are also exploring the possibility of linking this with the Citizens Project.

I should be most grateful if you could spread the word to your members and if interested parties could contact me directly. It would be good if we could create a group that could exchange ideas online and possibly meet up at a later stage.

Best wishes
