December 2021 - The Work of the RNLI

Our talk in December was from Caroline Tilley, Community and Heritage Presenter for the RNLI.

It was lively and informative, ranging from the story of Grace Darling to the recent Shannon class lifeboat designed by a young man who had been rescued by the RNLI in Lough Swilly, County Donegal as a fourteen year old. The Talk was illustrated by pictures and music and Caroline sang, very tunefully! Our U3A members excelled themselves by their generous contributions. This is what Caroline said when she picked up the collection box:

"I thought that box was heavy.....£94.44!!! Plus your generous gift from the group's funds for £50 takes it to £144.44. I've had a look through my records going back to 2008, and I think that has to be in the top three amounts for a presentation, and the other two were when the RNLI was the chosen charity of the year by the group! Many thanks to Braith for inviting me and taking the box round, and the group for your generous response."

If any member wishes to further support the work of the RNLI there are various ways you can do this including becoming a member or making a donation which can be done on the RNLI website.
