Local History Group Programme 2024

Talks are open to every H&E u3a member. They take place at 10.30am on Mondays in Room 5 at the Quinborne Community Centre, Ridgacre Rd, Quinton unless otherwise stated.
Dates and times of visits may vary, depending on site opening hours.

January 29th Talk “Josiah Mason” by a member, Don Hazzard

Friday March 1st 10.30am Guided visit, approx 1.5 hours, to the Smethwick Heritage Centre, Victoria Park Lodge, Smethwick (travelling details will be advised by email).
Cost £5 to include refreshments.

March 25th Talk by Eileen Joyce “Dudley Castle in the English Civil War”
Cost £2.50. If you remember Eileen gave us a very interesting talk last year about Charles the second's escape after the Battle of Worcester.

Thursday April 25th 10.30am Guided visit to the Museum of Carpet, Kidderminster. Tour booked 10.30am.

May 20th Talk TBA

June Guided visit to Forge Mill Needle Museum and Bordesley Abbey B98 8HY details to follow.
Tour costs £5 for 1 site and £7.50 for both. Sign up and pay at May meeting.

July 22nd Talk by a Worcester Presentations Sandy Cale, who did the talk on Georgian Worcester. “Madresfield – the True Brideshead.”
Cost £3. This could be followed up by a group or family visit to Madresfield House in Worcestershire.

August Visit, date TBA, to Winterbourne House and Gardens, Edgbaston, B15 2RT. Possible guided visit to new exhibition in the House.
Cost £6.90 or £7.80 to include gift aid donation. NB payments in full to Winterbourne 25 days in advance, so I will collect in full at July meeting.

September 30th Talk “The Elan Valley, securing "Birmingham's Water Supply" by a member, Don Hazzard

October Friday Visit to JW Evans old silver factory and exhibition. B1 3EA 2 groups of 10.
EH members free, others £8.60 or £9.50 to include gift aid. Details to follow by email.

December Possible local visit and light lunch?

As you can see there are still some details to be finalised, but I hope that the Programme is fixed as far as possible. I will email details in good time before visits.
