Harborne & Edgbaston

Welcome

Welcome to the u3a website for Harborne, Edgbaston and neighbouring districts of Birmingham

Harborne and Edgbaston u3a
Harborne and Edgbaston u3a is a friendly group, which draws its members not just from these two suburbs of Birmingham but also from neighbouring areas.
Originally our u3a was founded as Harborne u3a in 1998 following the demise of the Central Birmingham Group two years previously. In 2001 we changed our name to include neighbouring Edgbaston
and thus Harborne and Edgbaston u3a was born. We now have over 180 members.
We have a varied range of Interest Groups or, if you just want to come along to the monthly meetings you will find that these are always well attended.
Visit our Events page to see the monthly meeting calendar.

Harborne and Edgbaston
Harborne and Edgbaston are leafy suburbs of Birmingham, which lie within a few miles of the city centre. They both have easy access to the city's library, museums, art galleries and concert venues.

The University of the Third Age
The u3a is a national and international learning organisation consisting of local u3a groups which are managed and organised by the members themselves. All u3a groups are members of the Third Age Trust which provides administrative and educational support. Members receive the u3a News published by the Third Age Trust quarterly.

Members are normally retired or semi-retired from paid employment who would like to extend and share their knowledge in a friendly and social environment.

Learning is self directed and there are no exams or qualifications to be gained. To find out more about the history and ethos of the u3a the Third Age Trust please visit their web site, via the u3a tab above. You will need to register but anyone can do so. Our meetings have a social side as well as an educational one

Activities
Interest groups range over a broad spectrum of subjects and vary in both type and size. These are organised by members with the emphasis on learning through their own efforts. New interest groups are started as members identify a particular interest or need. As our u3a continues to grow we look forward to the development of new groups and methods of enjoying learning together.

General Meetings are held monthly on the first Wednesday in the month when invited speakers talk on a wide variety of subjects of interest to members. These meetings are followed by refreshments and the opportunity to socialise with fellow members. Please see our Events page for full details.

Membership
Membership is currently £22 annually and entitles members to attend the General Meetings and all or any of the groups they wish to join or visit for a sampler.
Non members are warmly invited to attend one of our monthly General Meetings to see if they would like to join us, where they will be made very welcome. Visitors are able to attend two meetings before they will need to become members. This can be two General Meetings, or one General Meeting and one group meeting.

If you would like more information about our u3a group or to find out how to join please contact our Membership Secretary.
