Durham

Welcome

Durham U3A offers a warm welcome to existing and new members and an invitation to our regular meetings and sub-group activities.

We hope you will enjoy looking around the site and find something to interest you.

If you are not yet a member, we would be delighted to see you at our monthly meetings on a "try before you buy" basis. Check out the Events page for something that might interest you.

Please note that with effect from 1st April 2024, we shall be amalgamating with Dunelm u3a to provide even more opportunities for our members. Watch out for a new website.

Just because we are in our Third Age doesn't mean that we have "one foot in the grave!" We believe in life-long learning and life long fun and friendship. Keeping our minds and bodies active and maintaining a good social life is a well-known route to a happy and healthy retirement. So read on and see if this is for you.

Like all local U3A branches, Durham is run by and for its members. We encourage those who have a particular skill or body of knowledge that they can share to do so. Former language teachers can and do use the sub-groups to maintain their own skills and share their abilities so that our sub-groups are not lessons run by external tutors, but are organised and run by a Group Leader from our own members.

There is plenty of scope to set up and run a new group. A small financial "pump priming" grant can be made available if necessary and members of the committee will be happy to give advice. Any member is fully entitled to set up a group. Nobody need wait to be asked. We know, for instance, that there is some interest in an Italian group. We just need someone to have a go at organising it. If you would like to start a group, please consult our Groups' Liaison Officer, Paul Newby. You will find him in Contacts

Please check out our Groups page to see what is currently on offer.

Membership is open to everyone who is no longer in full-time work. Currently the annual fee is a modest £11. This gives you access to all the monthly meetings (for a small additional fee per meeeting), all sub-groups, all regional events and opportunity to attend national events as well.

To join, click on the Join Us button and download the membership form.
