Sunday Lunches in 2023

And the 2023 starts.

November
A reduced number of diners attended the meal at the post house, 9 people enjoyed an excellent standard Sunday lunch with a selection of three different meats, and a vast selection of various vegetables.

October
No event.

September meal
This was held at "the New Inn" at Sampford Courtney, we have visited this pub before and once again we were treated to an excellent lunch by the staff. There were 14 of us attending numbers slightly reduced due to a couple of members having contracted COVID. The food and service was as usual very good with diners choosing either the standard Sunday lunch option or selecting from the normal pub menu. Special mention should be given to the "pigs in Blankets" starter, I did not know that the addition of Honey would take this to a whole new level... All present enjoyed the meals and most were tempted in the end to order deserts. Once again thanks to all at the pub who made our visit so pleasurable. See photos to the side.

August Meal
This was held at "Belluno" in Newton St Cyres on the 13th, In the end 16 people attended and partook of a selection of meals, 7 opting for the Sunday Lunch option while the rest had various options from the standard Italian menu. As usual, although only one person had pre ordered a desert, the temptations on offer ended up with most of us having one, with the dropped Pavlova proving very popular with the special of the day a close second. As usual a convivial time was had by all.

July Meal
A far better experience than last time, 10 members assembled at The Oxenham Arms South Zeal for this months Sunday lunch. The pub is very historic and we were put in one of the off shoot dining rooms on a single long table which made for easy chatter whilst awaiting the meal. The food was very good with the various selections of Beef, Pork, Nut Roast and Fish and chips being selected by the members. Some of the diners decided to add a desert from the menu all of which were also very good (see pictures to the side). Thanks very much to John and the girls who served us.

June meal
Well where to start... The Sunday meal for June was set to be at The Devonshire Dumpling on Sunday the 11th, and accordingly at 1:00 pm 17 of us turned up at the pub, The first problem was that turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year so far and, because we were 17, the pub had put us in the conservatory, normally a very good place to eat but in the heat of the day not so good. Some of us had to re locate into the main part of the pub as it was far too hot, we had all just ordered the drinks and the landlord had popped round to check what we all wanted to eat when.....All the lights went out and electric power to the pub failed !!!! In fact all the power to the area had failed, after a while the landlords received a text from the power company stating that someone had taken down one of the cables serving the village and that the estimated repair time was 3 - 4 hours. Although the pub cooks on gas all the extraction was electric and safety interlocks prevented cooking being carried on with no extraction, so regretfully we had to abort the lunch at this time. We however will put a visit to this pub on the calendar for later this year and try again.

April Meal
A little different this time, we tried the cafe at the new Homeleigh garden Centre just outside of Crediton. The management set aside a separate section within the dining area giving us our own dining area. Twenty one members attended and were served a standard sunday lunch with choice of Beef,Chicken or Nut loaf for the vegetarian/Vegan option. The meat portions were very good with all being cooked and served quite quickly considering the numbers involved. There was also quite a large selection of vegetables with plenty to go round between us all. For those who still had room after the meal there was a good selection of desserts including several vegan options.

March Meal
This took place at the Seven Stars in exeter, The group met up at 12:00 as this pub operates a Timed seating system, the group enjoyed a pleasant meal with a selection of different choices, some plumping for the standard sunday lunch others exploring the various other meals available, I can recommend the mixed grill atthis pub as it was very good and not too pricey.

Feb Meal
Our new year started with the first Sunday lunch of 2023 being held at the New Inn at Coleford. 18 members attended and had a good time with a Sunday lunch of choice of Beef, Pork, Chicken or nut roast. The usual hubbub of conversation and joking filled the air as we all enjoyed in the restart after a break of two months. The staff at the pub were excellent handling the various mix of dishes requested and supply tasty food. Thanks very much all the staff at the New Inn.
