Friday Lunches in 2023

This is a record of the lunches held in 2023

Meals this year
November Meal
This was held at the Beer Engine a pub we have used several times in the past, as always the staff copped very well with the massive amount of 36 of us who attended this very popular event and we were all served in quick time by the hard working staff.

October meal
Was not run due to the organizers being away on holiday for the month.

September Meal
This was held at "the Post House" at Whiddon down 21 member attended and had a fairly good meal and enjoyable time, the event was a little chaotic due to the pub loosing its chef due to a sudden illness and a reduction in staff, but a good time was had by all.

August Meal
This was held on Friday 25th August and was at "The Stoke Canon Inn" at Stoke Canon, this is actually a community owned and run pub taken over by the community after the original owners shut the Pub. 21 of our members had a very the usual very good time time. The meals provided were excellent and even though we had selected quite a range of different meals all were served in a very short time with everybody being very satisfied with their selection. The service from the volunteer staff (community owned no one is paid) was excellent with much humor and chatter taking place, A big thankyou is due to all those who made our visit so successful. See pictures to the side.

July Meal
Another very successful meal was taken at the London Inn at Morchard Bishop, 26 people attended and were provided with the excellent food normally provided at this pub. As usual the advice here is if you want a desert do not have a starter, as the portion sizes are very generous indeed, in fact several of our members with smaller appetites chose to have a starter as their main meal so that they could fully enjoy the deserts available. The service from all the staff was excellent with all the meals supplied in quick order (no mean feat when catering for 26) and all who attended had a very convivial time with much talking and story telling. Thanks once again to all at the London Inn who made our lunch suck a success. See the photos to the side for pictures of the food and the group.

June Meal
This was held at the Red Lion out at Broadclyst, a much reduced number of diners attended due to the fact that many of our members were either on holiday of had previous family commitments which meant that 9 members enjoyed a very good humored time as we were all sat on one long table, which facilitated a convivial event. Much talking during the meal which as usual covered a great deal of topics and easily passed the time between courses. As usual here the food was once again very good and this will probably become one of our stalwart once a year pubs for eating. Our thanks to the staff who looked after us very well.

April
Aprils meal was back at the Fingle Bridge Inn down by the river in Drewsteignton. 18 members attended, slightly lower numbers than normal but several normal stalwarts had to skip this meal as they were on Holiday for the date. The group braved the "exciting" trip down the narrow road and steep hill to arrive at the pub, the owners had seated us on two long tables in the main restaurant area of the pub and could not have treated us any better. The food as usual was very good and despite only a few of us having pre ordered deserts, come the end of the meal almost all of us decided that "well perhaps I could have one".
Once again much thanks to all the staff at the pub who gave us a memorable meal with excellent table service.

March
The second meal of the year was held at the Malt Scoop at Lapford. 30 members braved a very wet day in order to attend, at times a boat would have been better on the roads into the village! The staff at the pub were excellent in their service to us providing all 30 meals in short order (not an easy task for the numbers concerned). The food was as usual at this pub excellent with the majority of the group selecting the pan fried salmon (15 of the 30 meals) the others ranged from the home made meat pie to chicken and the ever popular ham eggs and chips. All the food supplied was of very good quality and quantity and everyone had a convivial time. See the photos to the side.

Feb
The first meal of this year was held at the New Inn at Sampford Courtenay on friday 24th feb.
In the end 28 members joined us at this meal after we had had an extended break over the new year, As always the food was very good and the entire group enjoyed a very convivial time. The pub staff were very attentive and handled the disparity of foods ordered between the group members very well. All in all a good start to the new year, See the pictures to the side.
