On Thursday 7th December 13 members of the Brixworth u3a Science & Technology Group travelled to the Mini assembly plant at Cowley near Oxford, on the site of the former Morris Cars factory founded by William Morris (Lord Nuffield), where, as long ago as 1915 the Bull nose Morris was manufactured followed by the Morris Minor and in the late 1950s the original Mini. In 1994 the German car manufacturer BMW bought the Austin Rover Group but when it was sold back in year 2000 the Cowley plant was retained. Here within a year BMW started to produce the “New Mini” a far cry from the original Issigonis version designed at Austin Longbridge.
