Braintree Area

Braintree Area u3a - Registered Charity No. 1196660

Welcome to The Braintree Area u3a, which is part of the u3a movement of locally-run interest groups that provide opportunities for those no longer in full-time employment to come together and develop new interests, make new friends and have fun. Members explore new ideas, skills and activities together. Braintree Area u3a has more that 250 members and many interest and activity groups to get involved with, together with a programme of outings to shows, concerts and places of historical or general interest. A General Meeting for all members is held once a month. Click on any of our links above, or if you have a particular interest click on this Groups link and scroll down to see the range we offer.

General monthly meetings are usually held from 2.00pm to 4.00pm on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Bocking Arts Centre (unless otherwise stated). This is for members only but non-members are welcome to attend (unless otherwise stated) on two occasions. They are then asked to become members if they wish to continue attending the meetings. Please sign the guest book that is just inside the door on the right as you come in. Doors open at 1.30 so please arrive in time to meet friends and find a seat before the announcements start at 2.00pm. The speaker usually starts at about 2.15pm.

MEMBERSHIP - NEW MEMBERS WELCOME. Membership fees for new members and renewals are £15.00 for one member and £25.00 for two members living at the same address. Membership runs from January to December. Click on the link here to see the Membership Application Form 2022. England has now relaxed all Covid restrictions, which means that there is now no limit on how many people can meet indoors or outdoors. The current Government advice is to get vaccinated; let fresh air in if meeting indoors, or meet outside; consider wearing a face covering in crowded, enclosed spaces; get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms, and stay at home if positive. Therefore we ask members to please consider their own particular circumstances before attending meetings and not to attend meetings if they or someone else from their household have covid-19 symptoms. Some groups are meeting in person, e.g. the Walking Groups, Scrabble and Digital Photography Group. Other groups are continuing to remain in contact via Zoom, Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and by telephone. Please click on the Groups link to see the status of any groups you are interested in.
