Berwyn & District

May 19

May's Backyard Chicken Group Meeting was held on Tuesday 21st May, 2pm at Tyn' y Coed, Derwen. 4 members and a friend attended. Each bearing cakes and new member Michael brought a bottle of sherry. ( I couldn't share it as everyone was driving.😂)
Michael has just moved up from London to Corwen into a house with large grounds and fancies having a few chickens but knows nothing about keeping hens. After introductions and before the meeting started I brought out the baby guinea fowl ( a keet ) to show the other members. It was wearing booties for crocked toes and a leg brace for splayed legs.
I had a few Chicken magazines for Michael, 2 books on
'Keeping Chickens' and one full of photos of different breeds. Anita explained everything that he would need, housing, food etc. Irene spoke about her Silkies. Small, beautiful hens and showed Michael a photo of them and it was love at first sight! Gillian thought 6 hens would best to start with but suggested that 3 ought to be re homed ones as given the chance of a new life they blossom and produce great eggs.
We covered about every aspect of rearing a few hens with their pros & cons.
Once tea & cakes were served we were joined by my partner Peter and Gillian's husband Charles who had escaped the meeting and been out in the TR 6 for a spin in the country side. Sue had visitors so couldn't make the meeting so more cake for us then!
