Berwyn & District

First day out, April 2016

Backyards Chicken Group's First Outing.
On Tuesday 19th April the U3A Berwyn & Ruthin Groups had their first trip Chicken Day Out. This had been arranged by Sue Mortimer, a regular group member.
Sue We met at her home near Bryneglwys. On arrival she surprised us by showing off her newly acquired point of lay chickens. A Blackrock, a Speckeldy, a Bluebell and an Amber. We inspected the new hen house and the spacious run.
Next we met Amanda, a neighbour who took us around her large flock, a mixture of breeds and different ages from a rather old cockerel down to very tiny chicks. In a run next to the hens were a couple of very friendly pigs.
Carol another neighbour proudly showed us her rescue hens. No longer poor specimens without feathers but a happy clucking flock who came rushing towards us as hens do knowing that a treat is coming.
Amanda took over next and she had everything. hens, cocks, tiny chicks, ducks, two goats and horses.
It was a delight to be having our meeting outside with such friendly, knowledgeable people and Sue provided us all with tea and cake to end a ' Great Day Out'.
Isabel.
