Wed 6th September

On Wednesday September 6th. four of us ventured to Sue Mortimer’s new house in Willaston to revel in more of our ‘Desert Island Poems’.

It was a very successful meeting in spite of missing Helen and Elaine who were unable to be with us.
Please excuse the briefness of this report but I felt that we covered so much invaluable literature in such a short amount of time that I feel that it would take me so long to précis it that I decided just to list our labours this time.
We started off in the traditional manner by reading, in turn, more of Jeff’s novel ‘The Saga of Thørkil’ and we completed the whole of chapter seven! (only sixteen more to go).

Here is a list of our contributions which I would recommend a re-reading:

Sue’s
DIGGING by Seamus Heaney
THE OLD SAILOR by AA Milne
NAMING OF PARTS by Henry Reed

Marie’s
An exerpt from LONDON FIELDS by Martin Amis
IT AIN’T WHAT YOU DO by Simon Armitage
DEW by Simon Armitage

Diana’s
Section 5 of LITTLE GIDDING from THE FOUR QUARTETS by T.S. Eliot
HEAVEN-HAVEN by Gerard Manley Hopkins
EVERYONE SANG by Siegfried Sassoon

Suzanne’s
Englynions: HEATHER by Eifion Wyn and NIGHTFALL by Gwallter Mechain
TO THE NOBLE WOMAN OF LLANARTH HALL by Evan Thomas
YOU’VE LIVED by Gwyn Thomas

Geoff’s
HOLY, WATERY WALES by Geoff Yeomans
An exerpt from Book 2 of WAR AND PEACE by Leo Tolstoy
Shylock’s speech from THE MERCHANT OF VENICE by William Shakespeare

We then indulged in our splendid host’s chocolate brownies, cake and teas. Thank you so much Sue.
Our next meeting will be at Helen’s house all being well on the 1st. November. Topic to be announced later.
