December's Backyard Chicken Meeting.
We had our December chicken meeting on the 10th December. A small but very friendly gathering. We talked about the mindless slaughter of little Tuffty who was killed on her own doorstep by an uncontrolled dog that was part of a bird killing shooting party and how the leader of the shoot never made contact after this distressing event. On a happier note Gillian was surprised to find one of her hens had laid an egg after weeks of no action and one of Anita's hens has gone broody but sadly another has developed difficulty walking.
This was our Christmas meeting and our refreshments were rather delicious.
Today 11th Dec. bird flu was discovered on a farm in Suffolk and thousands of hens are to be slaughtered. We now have to be aware of the fact that avian flu is here again and watch for any signs in our own flock.
