November 19

A small pleasant chicken meeting was held at Tyn' y Coed in November. Anita talked about a Polish special breed of chicken. It's head is covered in an enormous crest, a bit like a feather bonnet. 20 eggs had been ordered from Poland but for some reason were delayed in customs for 3 weeks, then Anita's incubator refused to work so the eggs ended up being incubated at her friends house in Anglesey. Not surprising only one hatched. Hopefully it will survive and we look forward to seeing photos of it.

I spoke about hens changing into cockerels. This happens when something damages the birds large ovary. The other ovary, small & insignificant will start producing male ! hormones and the hen grows a large comb & wattles and begins to crow.
Gillian's hens have finished their moult and Michael hasn't got hens yet but now is the proud owner of a small pig which escaped one dark night and the story of it being caught was hilarious.
As soon as the cakes came out we were joined by two clucking partners.
