15/11/2022 Baz Aveyard - Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell: A Bloomsbury love story.
Baz is a member and former Chair of our group. A self confessed Bloomsbury addict he has read extensively on the subject. This talk explores the lives of Duncan and Vanessa, two of the most important British painters of the early 20th century and complex enduring affair that lasted for over 60 years.

17/01/2023 Horace Liberty - John Hassall
The creator of Skegness Jolly Fisherman. Arguably John Hassall's most famous creation was "The Jolly Fisherman" in 1908, which is regarded as one of the most famous holiday advertisements of all time in the United Kingdom.[
Horace is a regular visitor to Bailgate u3a, we know him for his excellent delivery and well received talks.

Rachel has been a professional gardener for over 30 years, I am gardener and adviser to Sir Andrew and Lady Belinda Buchanan at Hodsock Priory and The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre, Anston. I love to share my horticultural my knowledge through talks and as a garden consultant.
21/03/2023 Heritage Lincolnshire - Rescuing Buildings at Risk
This talk will look at two building preservation projects which Heritage Lincolnshire undertook, demonstrating both the diversity of Lincolnshire venacular buildings as well as some of the unexpected developments that managing a building at risk restoration can bring! We will draw on the experiences from Mill Hill Cottage, a mud & stud cottage in Little Steeping and The Old King’s Head, a 16th Century coaching inn that has now been fully restored and re-opened as a nine bedroom B&B with cafe and community room.

16/05/2023 Chris Williams - Beyond the Census of 1881 - the later lives of the boys of Lincoln Grammar School.
Our focus is on the six boarders. The original plan had been to produce short notes on each one and seek conclusions. However, once the research started it became very clear that there were some great stories to share with a wider audience which show that even from such a small and possibly unrepresentative sample Lincoln Grammar School produced young men whose careers had significant impact.
Chris Williams was a teacher of history and Deputy Headteacher at LCHS from 1986 to 2007 with two three month periods as Headteacher. He now works for the school and a number of organisations on a consultancy basis. He has been Honorary Archivist since 2005. In April 2014 he was appointed to a post with specific responsibility for the Archives of Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School since the reorganisation of 1974.

Neil is from the Fern Nursery in Binbrook he will talktalk on the “World of Ferns”. He is an encyclopaedia of horticultural knowledge and is an expert on ferns
18/067/2023 Jools Aveyard- The American Revolution.
Jools is a neonatal intensive care nurse but joins us today to share his passion and will take us into the thrilling story of the American Revolution

15/08/2023 Chris Hewes The story of nursing on the front line in WWI France, Jean Bemrose was awarded the Military Medal for her gallantry and devotion to duty during a major air raid on Etaples Hospital. Using copies of albums, photographs and memorabilia from her own collection, this is a unique insight into WWI nursing care.
Chris is Saxilby and District History Group and the Treasurer of the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology. I have written several books and articles on local history and was a regular member of BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s ‘Lunch Bunch.

Baz returns to explore the life of Ellen Wilkinson. Baz is a member of the socialist history society and contributes to their history of Ellen. She is perhaps most famous as the instigator of the Jarrow March. However this is not a socialist polemic. We will explore her friendship with Nancy Astor and Churchill.
17/10/2023 Paul Smith - Thomas Cook & the Origins of Popular Tourism" the life and career of Thomas Cook during the Victorian era.
Paul is a qualified archivist. I studied medieval history, languages and literature at university, but my professional career has been spent almost exclusively in corporate archives.
21/11/2023 Bob Massey - Traditional Christmas: How our British traditions of the Christmas season came about.
Bob is a retired Theatre Consultant who has planned many theatres and performance spaces through out the world. Alongside his consultancy work he was, for 30 years, Technical Manager of a Theatre in Nottingham, running shows and organising events for the visiting artists. As a lighting designer for over 40yrs ,he lit all types of shows from drama to musicals.
