The walking group resumed activity in September 2021, once larger numbers were able to meet.

Around Aberdeen we explored various paths in the Bridge of Don area, had the cobwebs blown away at Girdleness, where the dolphins obligingly made an appearance, and on our wander through Tollohill Woods, came upon a gathering place complete with half-full bottle of vodka!

Going slightly further afield, we walked to Cults and viewed the continuing deterioration of the Shakkin' Briggie. The new orbital route round Westhill was covered in two separate walks, with the second being re-routed on account of the damage caused by the winter storms.

Another, rather more last-minute, change was necessary in March at Culter when overnight rain caused the Dee to cover the riverside path to such an extent that even the dog walker with his large St Bernard opted not to risk that route. The rain continued to fall as we gathered at the meeting point but perseverance paid off and we were soon able to shed rainwear and enjoy the rest of the walk in drier conditions.

The Dee was much more tranquil in May when we walked in the Blackhall Estate, following the path along its south bank, before enjoying a quick snack while watching hopeful fishermen waist-deep in the river.

Most of our walks are between three and six miles and any gradients are usually few, short or gradual. Each session's programme is a collaborative effort, with members volunteering to lead walks of their own choosing. We are a small and sociable group, and new members are most welcome.
