Members Monthly Friday Event
Friday April 26th at 2.00pm, Main Hall at The Shoreham Centre. Illustrated talk: 'London through Artists' Eyes' by Mark Lewis
The story of London’s life, landscape and social manners, explored through the work of artists down the centuries to the present day. The talk aims to show the continually changing visions of Britain’s capital city.
Mark is a freelance artist, designer-silversmith and semi-retired university lecturer who has enjoyed a wide-ranging teaching career. Until the summer of 2009, he was a Principal Lecturer in the Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design at London Metropolitan University. He currently lectures part-time at the Goldsmiths’ Centre in London and is a visiting lecturer at Birmingham City University.

Groups Support person needed URGENTLY
We need someone to help with running groups support and I am hoping that someone is you.It won’t take much time, but it needs someone positive. We already have two people in the groups support team who do the online admin work and deal with potential new group leaders. You would be an interface between them and me, giving them advice, answering or escalating their queries and reporting back to the committee. To a large extent the role is what you make of it.
Colin Johnson has put in place many tools to assist Group Coordinators, but he will be stepping down in April/May. We URGENTLY require someone to step up and continue his work. Colin will be happy to assist you with the hand over and show you the ropes. If you have ideas for our u3a or feel things don’t always go as you think they should, then here's your chance to really make a difference. Please do contact me if you can help (email Chair).

Groups News

  • Singing for Pleasure has successfully restarted.
  • Bridge and Bridge 2 have merged to form a new group led by Val. Val is organising a meeting with group members to decide the way forward.
  • Cribbage: Val is organising a meeting with group members to decide the way forward.
  • Wine Appreciation 4 (usually the third Thursday afternoon in the month) can accommodate a couple of new members, who, by arrangement, are welcome to attend a taster session.

Pop-Ups
We are always interested in helping people who would like to start a new group or try out new ideas by having a one-off pop-up to discuss how the group might work and gauge the level of interest.
Pop-ups run recently include:

  • Rummikub – continuing as a group
  • Classical Music – continuing
  • Art and Mythology – not going forward. There were a number of factors the coordinator had to consider before finally deciding he could not proceed.
  • Skiing – continuing
  • Growing Your Own (Plants) - continuing

For further information on any group see Groups. That has a description of the group and an easy way to contact the group coordinator or click Contact on the website and send a ‘group enquiry’ email. Or you can ask to be put in touch with the group coordinator via the Members Table at the Monthly Friday Event.

New Members Meeting
On Thursday April 25th at 2.00pm there will be a New Members Meeting in Room 2 at The Shoreham Centre. New members will have an opportunity to meet with members of our committee in an informal setting to share information about our u3a and ask any questions over a cup of tea or coffee.
