Art Appreciation
3rd Monday 10.00am for coffee, 10.30am start, finish by 12pm
We are a large, lively and enterprising group and have had various themes over the past 20 years since our inception.
This is very flexible; adapted to encompass the members talks. In keeping with the U3A ethos ‘Those who learn teach: those who teach learn’, we do not have professional lecturers, but enjoy sharing our knowledge and research with each other. Our members may choose to do a whole morning's presentation or just part of the morning with others. In the past, we have shared our love and enthusiasm for our favourite galleries and collections, or our favourite artists. We looked at Portraiture one year and the Renaissance another. This year is a mixture of members interests.
Visits to galleries complement our talks. In 2019, we had two day trips: to tour the The Wallace Collection in April and to Kew Gardens in August, to see the Chihuly Glass Sculptures. In August 2020 some of us visited the Henry Moore Foundation at Much Hadham. These trips replace our usual monthly Art Appreciation meeting.
The Group has about 70 members, averaging an attendance of 40 per meeting. We can accept new members. Please contact Margaret Thompson SGL.
From early 2020, we met via Zoom, but resumed face-to-face meetings in September 2021.
Meanwhile, in August 2022 we are visiting the Ashmolean Museum by coach.
