Being a Group Leader or Facilitator

If you are thinking of becoming a group leader/facilitator or are new to it or are already one, we have devised a list of the ways that we can help you.

1. Marina Ashton is our Group Coordinator, use the Contact tab above to communicate with her for all matters to do with running your group.

2. Use this, our Wallasey u3a website on a regular basis because we are constantly revising it.

3. If the thought of any paperwork puts you off then you could ask someone else in the group to act as your Facilitator, that is the person who takes the register and takes any money required, etc.

4. New group leaders may be entitled to a startup fund of £50 to help towards the costs of materials and resources. This is also available to existing groups who have not already claimed it, to help pay for any materials and resources that you may need. It would be Liz Booth our Treasurer who would explain all that to you. Again, use the Contact tab above.

5. Finally, as a group leader you may have to be aware of the issue regarding using materials and resources that are already protected by copyright. For example copying materials from the internet, although it is widely and easily done may not be strictly allowable. We have a licence which is provided through the Third Age Trust and more information about that is on the link provided on this page.

6. We have created a Whatsapp group where group leaders can chat about ideas, seek guidance and exchange best practice.

Please note that to join a group applicants must be a member or an affiliated member of the u3a. Anyone wishing to attend a group as a guest must understand that they attend at their own risk and will not therefore be covered by the u3a insurance in the case of an accident.

The membership fee gradually reduces as the year progresses starting in October at the full fee of £12, if a new member wishes to join after the first of May the fee will be £8 and after the first of July it will be £4.
