Wind Band July 2023 with photographs

The final rehearsal of the Wind Band’s season was held on Friday, 28th July in front of an audience of family and friends.
Bravely, our conductor allowed us to choose what we wanted to play. Our choices made me realise what a diverse library of music we have. American Marching music, Jazz, Music from the shows dating back to the 30’s, Music from films and a range of Classical pieces.
Making music has a way of lifting the spirits and gives anyone with an interest in music the opportunity to meet likeminded people, and has the added bonus of making new friends. The band has a membership of people with a wide range of abilities from seasoned players to those who took up learning when they retired. What is a joy to me, as coordinator of the group, is the wonderful camaraderie between all the players and the tolerance players show to those brave enough to put their new or rusty skill to the test. If you play or have played a wind instrument in the past, or if you feel you could do justice to a triangle, tambourine or shaking a maraca, give the band a go.
A little note about our conductor. He is amazing and patient. Anyone who has played in a group that requires a conductor knows that they can make or break a band. He has taken the band from 8 players to 30 over the 9 years or so that he has given us his time.
The Wind Band meets at the Cluntergate Centre, Horbury WF4 5DA every Friday afternoon between 1pm and 3.30pm. Our current year came to an end with the concert mentioned above, but we will be starting again on Friday, 8th September, ie. after our summer break.
