March 2023

A record number of 27 dancers attended our last country dance session on 22nd March 2023. We are now taking our summer break and will restart on Wednesday 27th September 2023. We will continue to meet at the Methodist Church Hall on the Waits from 10.30 am to 12 noon on 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month until Spring 2024.

As the comfortable maximum number of people dancing is up to 28, we have decided to limit the membership.

Please contact Chris and Mary Burbage via the “envelope” link if you need more details.

12th July 2022

We will be restarting our Country Dancing group on Wednesday 14 September from 10.30am to 12.00noon at the Methodist Church Hall. Sessions will continue until Spring 2023 on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at an anticipated charge of £2.00 to cover the cost of hiring the hall.
We look forward to seeing all our regular dancers back and would welcome any newcomers - just turn up for the first session with your membership number, a pair of comfortable shoes and a drink. Don't worry if you have no partner, you'll soon find friends to dance with. I'm sure we will all have to re-learn our dance selection so don't be put off if your only memories of country dancing are from your school days!

28th March 2022

Over twenty members have been getting to grips with promenading, do-si-do-ing and threading the needle at our twice monthly dances. Following on from an already thriving group in October, we have gathered a willing band of ladies and gents who have mastered traditional partnered dances such as The Barn Dance, St Bernards Waltz and The Gay Gordons and also circle dances such as The Circassian Circle, Pat-a-Cake Polka and Lucky Seven (although counting to seven proved a little difficult for one of our leaders!). Other more obscure dances like The Sausage Machine, The Flying Scotsman and Star Trekking gave us some fun. Altogether we have sampled over twenty different dances, including set dances and progressive ones.

Due to heightened infection rates, we cancelled meetings during January but were pleased to get our dancing shoes back on for February and March. We are now having our summer break, but look forward to trying to remember all we have attempted, and more, when we restart in September.

3rd January 2022

We have enjoyed 5 sessions of Country Dancing since we started back in October and it has been good to see lots of new faces and men too!
However due to the Omicron variant being rife we have decided to cancel our two January sessions and hope to restart in February.
Watch this space!

9th September 2021

The first session will be on Wednesday 13th October 10.30am - 12 noon in the Methodist Church Hall, on The Waits. We hope a charge of £2.00 per session will cover the hire of the hall, but this depends on the number of dancers and can be reviewed at any time.
Those who have joined us before will remember that we take regular “breathers” and it might be advisable to bring your own water or drink.
At the first session you attend you will be asked to provide emergency contact details, and to sign in for our records and Test and Trace. Our “Risk Assessment “ will be available for you to see as well. Also, if you are feeling unwell or displaying any suspect symptoms, we would ask that you don’t attend.
We look forward to having some fun attempting our dances and also to seeing you.

August 2021

This is a group for beginners and anyone who enjoys country/Scottish dancing. We are gradually building a repertoire but need reminding, of course, when we haven't done a particular dance for a while. It's fun and low key and often a great laugh. It's amazing how easy it is to get stuck in 'The sausage machine' or tangled in the 'Jam Sandwich'!

We will meet on the SECOND and FOURTH Wednesday of each month. We will restart in October 2021 and continue until March 2022.
Sessions run from 10:30 am - 12:00 midday.

We meet at the Methodist Church Hall, opposite the Waits, in St Ives.

We usually pause our dancing from April through to September so that you can all enjoy the summer outdoors.

The next sessions will take place on :

Remember to have comfortable shoes and a drink with you - (it might be energetic!!).
Don't forget to bring your U3A Membership card with you.

See you there.
