South West Region

Public Relations

John Andrews has taken on the role of press relations advisor for the SW region to help local groups get their message out to the wider public through newspapers, magazines, radio, websites, social media, and TV.

He has worked in newspapers, BBC local radio, and regional TV for BBC and ITV. For more than twenty years he was a reporter, producer and presenter for Westcountry TV in Plymouth, Exeter, and Weymouth. For several years he was closely involved in media training for senior police officers at a national level, and he ran ITV regional websites for a while.

What can he do for you and your group? The u3a wants more people to know what it does and to attract new members, especially as this is its 40th anniversary year. We should be as well-known as the WI, Rotary Clubs and Round Tables. We have an important role to fulfil for people in the ‘third age’ and we need to let people know of our existence. He is available to advise on contacting the media, how to get their attention, writing press releases and articles for publication, and preparing people for radio or TV appearances.

If you and your group have good ideas about publicity and recruitment for the u3a let him know and he can encourage other groups to spread the word as well.

He can be contacted by email via the Contact page.
