Shimna

Walking Group

The Shimna Walking Group is led by Marian McGreevy although the walk is sometimes taken by another member.
We hope to do walks twice monthly
The walk is over by 12.30 to 1.00pm.
Sturdy footwear is needed but the walks are mainly on the flat. We are given details ahead of each walk e.g on stony ground.

No need to advise the walk leader in advance

PREVIOUS WALK REPORTS

Friday 27th October - Murlough
21 members joined a walk in Murlough. Numbers were high as the promise of a relaxed and special coffee stop in Murlough House was a great incentive.
As ever the cakes, coffee and chat were great on an autumn day with or without rain!

Friday 10 November - Donard Forest
9 Walkers enjoyed the lovely autumn morning with a walk through the woods.
The views and colours were superb.
The highlight for many was standing at the Shimna bridge and admiring the beautiful waterfall.
Two walkers recalled memories of a lovely poem about it penned by our member Cathal O ' Baoill and another remembered a photograph from her Newcastle honeymoon.

Friday 8th December - Castlewellan Lake
A small group of walkers enjoyed a lap of the Lake in Castlewellan.
The weather was kind and we managed a walk without rain despite the forecast from Barra Best.
Next walk will be on Friday 29th December at 11am Meet at The Orange Hall in Dundrum.
Please note no walk on 22nd as it is so close to Christmas I thought you would all be too busy

Friday 29 December - Murlough
9 U3A members had a lovely December walk in Murlough on Friday 29th December.
The weather was kind and of course we got some lovely coastal and mountain views .
However the Moile cattle and horses did not make an appearance today.
Some of us ended the walk with a coffee in Scopers Dundrum.
Please note no wild swimmers today.
Keep up the steps over next few weeks.
