YORK

Fourteen of us enjoyed a five day break with Plimbley Travel, staying a the Burn Hall Hotel near York, on a half-board basis. There was a Bird of Prey Centre adjacent to the hotel, which we would like to have visited, but unfortunately we were so busy visiting eating/drinking establishments that there wasn't enough time for us to go!

Day two was spent visiting the Black Sheep Brewery where we had a tour telling us all about the beer making process, and all the different types of beer which could be purchased. Plenty of sampling to do, and buying obviously. We then went onto the Wensleydale Creamery to see how their cheeses are made and again we were able to taste some samples. Both visits were enjoyable and plenty of purchases made.

On day three we were taken into York where we visited the Chocolate Shop. Although we were supposed to actually make some chocolate, we could only taste some that had already been made. The interactive tour that was also supposed to take place consisted of us going outside the building to look at non-working machinery though a window. Disappointing but interesting visit. Afterwards we spent time in York and enjoyed afternoon tea at the Hilton Hotel, very nice it was too.

We had a quiz between ourselves after dinner, and got our brains into gear. No prizes this time, but we all enjoyed it.

A trip to Whitby on the North Yorkshire steam railway on day four, where we enjoyed a fish and chip lunch. This was really nice, but a bit too much for us as well as an evening meal at the hotel. Very cold day, but we finished this off with a lovely piece of victoria sponge cake at the hotel to celebrate Pat Brown's birthday.

Home on day five. Our driver Neil was fantastic, so friendly and funny, and he made our holiday really enjoyable. Thank you to Neil and Plimbley Travel.
