Gift Aid

Our u3a receives funds from two main sources; the subscriptions you pay as members, and the Gift Aid we claim back from the government on qualifying subscriptions. Our charity's subscriptions are treated as donations for the purposes of Gift Aid, and currently we can claim 25% of their value back from HMRC, making this an important source of funds for us.

The best part about Gift Aid is that we can claim the funds without any cost to you as a member.

If you are a UK tax payer, your membership subscriptions qualify for Gift Aid. However, we can only make a Gift Aid claim if you have a signed declaration allowing us to do so. Once signed, your declaration allows us to claim Gift Aid until further notice.

  • When you first join the u3a, please allow us to take advantage of the Gift Aid scheme, by filling in the relevant part of the Membership Form
  • If you want us to claim Gift Aid on your subscriptions, but are not sure whether you ticked the Gift Aid box when you first joined, please check with our Membership Secretary.

If only one person in a household with joint membership is a tax payer, that person can pay the membership fee for both members and we can claim back the tax on the full amount of the joint membership fee.

If your circumstances change, and you are no longer a UK taxpayer, please contact our Membership Secretary to cancel your declaration.
