Meols (Southport)


Meols (Churchtown) U3A is a small U3A founded in 1997. As of March 2018 we have over 141members. New members are always welcome. Our annual subscription is £9. We currently have over 20 interest groups and are in the process of setting up several new groups. If any one has any ideas for new groups, not necessarily to run them, them please feel free to make sugggestions to any committtee member.

In addition to the interest groups we have a meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of every month which is attended on average by half the members .There is usually a speaker as well as being able to have a chat and socialse; this takes place at Emmanuel Church Hall, Cambridge Road, Southport., 1.45 for a 2pm start. We have close links with both Southport and Ainsdale & Birkdale U3As. Members of Birkdale and ourselves can join each other's interest groups provided there are vacancies, with no additional membership fees.

We are always open to potential new members. If you come along to our U3A you will receive a warm and friendly welcome.

What is the Third Age?
The Third Age refers to the period of time after the First Age of childhood dependence and the Second Age of full-time employment and parental responsibility. A time of creativity and fulfilment for older people.

What is U3A?
U3A is a learning cooperative of older people which enables members to share many educational creative and recreational activities.

Why are we called U3A?
The U3A is a university in the original sense of the word a collective of people devoted to learning, with members not students, all of whom are in their third age.
