u3a is an Educational Charity base on local groups that provide opportunities open to all in their third age, which is defined not by a particular age but by a period in life in which full time employment has ceased. Lymington u3a is one of more than 1,000 locally-run groups with 400,00 members.

It is all voluntary – members share their knowledge and experience with others in interest groups and running informal activity sessions covering a wide range of subjects and activities. There are learning opportunities, outdoor pursuits, social events and outings. No qualifications are sought or offered. Learning is its own reward, with enjoyment being the prime motive, not qualifications or awards.

We are local, social, friendly, low-cost and open to all

At the heart of Lymington u3a are our Interest Groups, where you can socialise, study, be creative and generally develop a fitter mind or body. We currently have more than 40 Interest Groups, led by volunteer members, with meetings usually held in their homes, local venues or via Zoom. There are Groups where you can, speak foreign languages, study history or Shakespeare and discuss philosophy or current affairs, as well as play card or board games, do yoga or play pétanque – and much more. Is there something you wished you’d had time to learn about earlier in life?. If our u3a does not have a group that addresses it, you can set one up and invite others to join you. We will help you to do this. Or you can join a suitable group if they have spaces. If not we can set up a new one.

We hold two monthly meetings at the Lymington Centre:
A General Meeting with a guest speaker giving a presentation on the first Thursday of the month, and
TED talks on the third Monday of the month, where participants sit around tables in small groups to enjoy coffee together, then watch a short video TED Talk and discuss
