The Pétanque or Boules Group
The group meets every fortnight in Lower Marine Parade on a «terrain», or pitch, which is on the recreational ground adjacent to the roller-skating rink and café. We usually play between 10:00 and 12:00 but during high holiday periods—when the Town Council has its shed open for holidaymakers—we are obliged to play between 09:00 and 11:00. The terrain is hired from the Council and players are asked to contribute £1 each per session. The group is there to have fun within a spirit of jocular competition. No previous experience is needed and no one has any expectations as to how anyone should play; indeed, the properties of the terrain would at times turn even an expert’s shot awry. Ours is an easy-going group. So, if you fancy a go at pétanque, why not pop along. There’s no need to book beforehand; just turn up.
