Events
Monthly talks with refreshments and a guest speaker are held in the Methodist Church Hall, North Street, Midhurst starting at 2.30pm. Admission is £2 for members and £3 for visitors interested in becoming members. Tea or coffee and biscuits are served before the talk, and there is a display of Midhurst u3a activities at the back of the hall. Doors open at 2.00pm, please arrive before 2.15pm if you would like to have tea. See below for details of forthcoming monthly talks.

If you are able to help at the monthly talks by serving tea, setting out chairs or welcoming visitors and new members, please contact us by emailing Sue Edwards, by clicking on RUG leader. We often also need people to help with admin. tasks such as taking bookings for social events and outings, or delivering envelopes to members 3 or 4 times a year. The Third Age Trust Educational Events page is frequently updated with new items. However they book up very quickly and we would advise anyone who is interested in virtually attending a Trust talk via Zoom to click on the link and save it as a favourite in their browsers or on their Desktop. Visiting this website frequently should allow Midhurst members to book talks shortly after they are posted online. There is also an option to sign up to an email alerting service.

| Tue May 21st | AGM followed by "The Man who Saved the Lives of a Million Children - Frederick Banting and the Discovery of Insulin." - Dr Ian Goodall |
| Tue Jun 18th | "Ghosts and the Paranormal" - Andy Thomas. Andy explores some striking testimony of ghostly phenomena he has personally gathered during three decades of investigation, and with an open mind looks at the many possible explanations. He is a leading researcher into unexplained mysteries. He is also the author of many books and has made radio & TV appearances. |
| Tue Jul 16th | "100 Piers - Painting at the Water`s Edge" - Paul Tracey Paul spent 5 years visiting and painting piers in the UK, Europe & the U.S., at the same time collecting all sorts of pier memorabilia. These were published in a book of the same name. |
| Tue Aug 20th | "California Dreaming - San Franciso to the Grand Canyon" - Neil Sadler. A road trip across Western USA with a twist! and with some interesting and amusing facts. Neil is a retired Police Officer after 30 years service in various operational ranks across Sussex. Also worked in Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, Trinidad….. Now has delivered over 870 talks |
| Tue Sep 17th | "The Zambezi Trilogy - The Fatted Calf" - Jill Baker This is the 2nd part of a trilogy of talks, taking us from Prime Minister Ian Smith and UDI to the Dawn of independence under Prime Minister Robert Mugabe. It was a turbulent time - and telling it through the eyes of four friends brings authenticity and understanding to an un-heard of situation in world politics. |

| Tue Oct 15th | "Tales from the Rails" - Bill Gage Former Assistant County Archivist at West Sussex Record Office. Bill uses social history as a platform to illustrate the development of the railway network. Full of anecdotes. |
| Tue Nov 19th | "The Royal Sussex Regiment" - Matthew Jones This talk will give us a tantalising introduction to the range of material available in the regimental collection, which includes photographs, personal diaries and letters. |

| Wed Jun 26th | National Motor Museum Large gardens run down to the Beaulieu River and house the Palace House with the nearby ruin of the former 13th century Abbey and the Domus which provided accommodation for the monks. In addition to the Motor Museum, there is a World of Top Gear exhibition, a Secret Army exhibition about the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during WWII, and a veteran bus ride. | Thu Jun 6th | 30th Anniversary Tea This will take place in Elsted Village Hall on the 6 June, exactly 30 years after Midhurst u3a was founded, 2.30-4.30pm. Tickets are £20 and will include sandwiches, savouries, scones and cake – so come hungry! We will arrange lifts for anyone who needs them. Contact Odette Marshall to arrange. Tickets go on sale at the monthly talks from Tuesday 19 March. Contact Ian Woodhams by clicking on Social events organiser to reserve a ticket.
