French Conversation 2

If you met a French neighbour would you have your French dictionary or grammar book with you? I doubt it, but you’d probably have your phone handy and could use it to look up a key word or two. This is the scenario on which our French Conversation group is based.

At our monthly meetings the aim is to get you to say a few sentences on a given topic. I will only correct your grammar if you would be misunderstood, for instance if you were to use the future tense for past actions.

Plenty of slang words are regularly used by the French so please feel free to do likewise. You’d also use the familiar tutoyer when speaking almost all French people nowadays, except for waiters, policemen and senior authority figures.

Only two words are banned by the group: “necessaire” because the French don’t use it. They always use “il faut….”. ”Introduire” is also banned because it has come to mean something intimate in recent years. You should use “presenter” instead.

Still interested in joining our small group, either in person or using Zoom? Do please get in touch with me, Heather, on 01430 424835
